Those of us who live here have lives, just like you do in your town. Of course, like normal people, there are times that we are in a hurry to get somewhere, the Dentist, a job, a meeting etc. Then, you get behind one of those 4 wheel turtles going 15-20 MPH in a 30 and sit there and seethe! In addition, many of the folks driving them apparently think they are driving a scooter and therefore park them in a scooter parking area, taking up 8-10 scooter spots. Or they park some place illegally, because they aren't quite as big as a car. The other problem is that some of the folks renting them tend to be less than srcupulous. They tell the cruisies as the get off the ship that they need one of these things to get around in when those folks could just as easily walk! Most cruisies never go more than6-8 blocks away from the ship anyway, so why do they need transportation? Key West is, after all, a walking town. The majority of tourists here are great and cause no trouble. In my estimation, a much larger than average percentage of electric car renters cause problems. I wish the city would start towning them or citing them for driving too slowly. A ticket costing over a hundred might put a dent in the electric car rental market pnce word got out. Probably won't happen though. I'll go to my room now. And I thought they sounded great for us. We do have a place to park it. Since there will be 5 of us and 2 groups going different ways at times, we figured we'd get bikes, but we'd have to get 3, so these looked like a great solution, but I don't want to make eveyone mad. Frankly, I think we'll end up walking more than the rest of my grouop thinks we will because the parking will be so bad. I learn so much out here! Don't let one old kermugion stop you, he knows how to go around you! There are some that can go 25, which is ALL you need. They don't like them in New Town on N Roosevely because it's a four lane, fast road. If I was 75 I'd get one. The rental places are literally all over the place, some companies will come get you or deliver a car. The slowest ones, so IMO the most UNSAFE, are the old egg-shaped ones called GEM. The more it looks like a little car or real golf cart, the better.
